Guest Lecture on Scientific Writing using Artificial Intelligence (AI): Techniques, Tools, Ethics, and Scientific Integrity

The Department of Plant Pests and Diseases (HPT), Universitas Gadjah Mada, will organize a Guest Lecture addressing a current issue in academia, namely the use of artificial intelligence in scientific writing. The lecture, titled “Scientific Writing using Artificial Intelligence (AI): Techniques, Tools, Ethics, and Scientific Integrity,” will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:30 WIB in a hybrid format—offline at Classroom 8, AGLC Building, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, and online via Zoom Meeting.

The event will feature Wahyono, S.Kom, Ph.D, Head of the Master’s Program in Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UGM, as the main speaker. In his presentation, he will discuss various AI-based techniques and tools that can be utilized in the scientific writing process, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining ethics and scientific integrity in their use. The material provides valuable insights into how AI can be applied responsibly to enhance the quality of scientific publications without violating academic principles.

This guest lecture is open to the public, offering a wide opportunity for students, researchers, and academics to participate and engage in discussions directly with an expert. However, it is mandatory for students enrolled in the Journal Article Writing course in the Master’s Program of Plant Pest Science, Department of HPT UGM. Participants’ enthusiasm is expected to foster active discussions and enrich understanding of technology utilization in research.

This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education). By integrating AI technology into learning while emphasizing ethical and integrity aspects, this lecture contributes to improving the quality of higher education and preparing human resources to be adaptive to global technological advancements.
