This effort was marked by the inaugural harvest of the Gamagora 7 rice variety, held in Bayamgede Village, Kepohbaru District, on Saturday (February 28, 2026).     In response to the growing global threat to banana production, three lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), actively participated in a co-design workshop held in Manila in March 2026. The delegation included Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr.Sc. from the Department of Plant Protection, along with Mrs. Valentina Dwi Suci Handayani, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D. from the department of agronomy and Mrs. Alia Bihrajihant Raya, S.P., M.P., Ph.D. from the Department of Agricultural Socio-Economics. They are part of a collaborative research team under ACIAR, focusing on the management of banana wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (TR4). read more

    On February 16, 2026, a delegation of lecturers from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted an academic visit to University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City, Philippines, to attend and actively participate in the international scientific forum titled International Seminar on Abaca (Musa textilis): Production Systems, Disease Challenges, and Fiber Utilization. The event was organized by the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences, Tagum-Mabini Campus, and took place at the AVR, Agri Building, Mabini Unit, Davao de Oro. The seminar brought together academics, researchers, and practitioners from various countries who share a common interest in the development of natural fiber commodities, particularly abaca (Musa textilis), which is widely recognized for its high economic value and strong potential in sustainable industries. read more

The delegation included Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr.Sc., Prof. Tri Joko, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Ir. Arif Wibowo, M.Agr.Sc. from the Department of Plant Protection UGM, as well as Prof. Ir. Alva Edy Tontowi, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng. from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering UGM.     Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture UGM Holds Graduation Ceremony for March I 2026 Period

    On March 11, 2026, the Department of Plant Protection Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a yudisium (graduation ceremony) for six students. The March I 2026 ceremony was held in the Meeting Room of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, 3rd Floor, Building A1.

    The graduates, consisting of students from the Undergraduate Program in Plant Protection and the Master’s Program in Plant Pest Science, shared reflections and experiences from their academic journey at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. They expressed that studying in the fields of Plant Protection, Phytopathology, and Plant Pest Science provided valuable experiences, including the development of both hard and soft skills, comprehensive scientific understanding and its practical applications, as well as the expansion of professional networks. In addition to expressing gratitude for their educational journey, the graduates also conveyed their hopes for the department’s future development—aspiring for the Department of Plant Protection to continue progressing, producing outstanding and impactful graduates, and for all lecturers to be granted continued health and well-being. read more

    In March 2026, graduate students from the Master’s Program in Plant Pest Science conducted a field practicum on Insect Taxonomy and Systematics at Taman Lansia Ceria (TLC) Bethesda Yakkum and the nearby Kali Kuning area. This activity was designed as an integral part of experiential learning, aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of insect diversity, identification techniques, and collection methods in natural habitats. The practicum was supervised by Dr. Prayogo Probo Asmoro, S.P., M.Si. and Dr. Suputa, S.P., M.P., with support from teaching assistants Manda Rahma Cyntia, S.P. and Hanifan, S.P., M.Sc., who actively facilitated the technical aspects of the fieldwork. read more

    On February 11, 2026, students from the Plant Protection Study Program conducted a field practicum in Agricultural Nematology at the UGM Center for Agro-Technology Innovation (PIAT) in Berbah. The activity involved 50 students from the 2024 cohort enrolled in Agricultural Nematology Practicum groups A3.1 and A3.2. The practicum was supervised by lecturers Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Maulana, S.Hut., M.Sc. and Dr. Adyatma Irawan Santosa, S.P., M.Sc., with additional support from teaching assistants who facilitated both technical and academic aspects of the session. read more

    The Plant-Parasitic Nematode Molecular Identification Training 2026 will be held on April 8–9, 2026, at the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This program is designed to enhance participants’ skills and knowledge in molecular identification, particularly of plant-parasitic nematodes that play a significant role in the agricultural sector. Over the course of two days, participants will receive comprehensive materials ranging from the fundamentals of molecular identification to hands-on training in DNA extraction and PCR techniques, as well as primer design, sequencing data analysis, and phylogenetic tree construction. read more
