YOGYAKARTA, September 25, 2026 — Fourteen postgraduate students in the Master of Plant Pest Science program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) participated in an Integrated Pest Management Field Practicum on land owned by Dr. Tri Harjaka, S.P., M.P., in Turi, Sleman, on Friday (September 25). This activity provided the students with the opportunity to understand the application of pest management concepts directly through observations of crop conditions in the field.
The practicum began at 7:00 a.m. with an introduction before the students headed to the field, accompanied by Dr. Tri Harjaka. In the cassava field, students received an explanation of the economic threshold and observed rat infestation patterns in the crop. These observations served as part of their learning process, connecting concepts learned in lectures with real-world conditions.

In addition to the cassava crop, students also observed nearby rice fields. The activity then continued with an inspection of other land still owned by Dr. Tri Harjaka. Through these observations, students gained an overview of crop conditions and pest presence in different locations.
Organized by the Master of Plant Pest Science Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), the activity was facilitated by Dr. Tri Harjaka as a lecturer, and Anisa Putri and Virendra as co-assistants in the practicum. As a follow-up to the activity, students were given the task of compiling a summary of the material on economic thresholds learned during the practicum.
