The Department of Plant Protection UGM has a strong advantage in the combination of pest and disease facilities with specialized laboratory facilities. The three laboratories developed are as follows:

1. Laboratory of Pest Science

Head of Laboratory

Dr. Ir. Arman Wijonarko, M.Sc.

This laboratory consists of the Room of Basic Entomology/Pest Invertebrate, the Room of Applied Entomology/Pest Vertebrate, and the Room of Nematology. It is dedicated to studying pest organisms, both vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as nematodes. The goal of this laboratory is to develop a thorough understanding of the behavior, ecology, and life cycles of these organisms and to predict their roles and impacts in both agricultural and natural ecosystems.

Members:

  1. Alan Soffan, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D.
  2. Muhammad Iqbal Maulana, Dr., S.Hut., M.Sc.
  3. Nugroho Susetya Putra, Dr.Ir., M.Si.
  4. Siwi Indarti, Prof.Dr.Ir., M.P.
  5. Suputa, Dr.
  6. Witjaksono, Prof.Dr.Ir., M.Sc.

Laboratory Technicians:

2. Laboratory of Plant Diseases

Head of Laboratory

Dr. Suryanti, S.P., M.P.

This laboratory comprises three specialized rooms: the Room of Mycology, the Room of Bacteriology, and the Room of Virology. The primary focus of this facility is the identification and analysis of organisms such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses that play vital roles in both agricultural and natural ecosystems. The research conducted here supports efforts to understand how these microorganisms contribute to ecological processes, crop health, and disease dynamics.

Members:

  1. Arif Wibowo, Dr.Ir., M.Agr.Sc.

3. Laboratory of Pest Control

Head of Laboratory

Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmadi Priyatmojo, M.Sc.

This laboratory features three key areas: the Room of Clinical Plant Disease, the Room of Biological Control, and the Room of Toxicology. It focuses on the interactions between plant pests and diseases, including strategies for managing them. The research in this facility is aimed at understanding the dynamics of these interactions and developing effective pest management solutions through biological control and toxicological studies, supporting sustainable agricultural practices and ecosystem health.

[Field Practicum of Taxonomy and Systematic Insect [Field Practicum of Taxonomy and Systematic Insects]

The field practicum of Taxonomy and Systematic Insects was to familiarize students with the fundamental techniques for collecting and preparing collections from Insecta class for use in entomological research.

To catch the insect, the student set out various traps, including light traps, pitfall traps, color-sticky traps, and Steiner traps. Hand picking, aspirators, and sugar bait were then used to catched the targeted insect.
