1. Laboratory of Pest Science
The research laboratory on Pest Science focuses on the development and discovery of methods or techniques in order to identify and cultivated pests, discover the biology and ecology of pests, and their interactions with the environment and human society. In addition, Pest Science laboratories are divided into three units:
a. Basic Entomology
Conduct insect classification, genetics, growth, and development, also on approaches such the biology, ecology, and habitat to understand and predict their functioning in agricultural and natural ecosystems.
b. Applied Entomology
Expand the knowledge of molecular processes of pest and host interaction, insect chemical ecology, communication and defense mechanism.
c. Nematology
Conduct nematode classification, genetic, growth and development, the biology of nematodes, and associated organisms. Other areas of concern to understand and predict their functioning in agricultural and natural ecosystems, focus on nematodes as key factors in soil resilience, and as a persistent threat to plant health.
2. Laboratory of Pest Control
The research laboratory on Pest Science is a one that provides and develops competence and conducts research in mainly the management and control aspects of pest. The management aspect of pest includes the agriculture testing, analysis, scientific research and development, inspection, and investigation. While control aspect of pest include physics, chemistry, biology, and natural control. Pest Control laboratories divided into three units:
a. Biological Control
Established to deal with Integrated Pest Management by utilizing all suitable pest management techniques and methods to keep pest population below economically injury levels. Mass producing of beneficial bio-agents i.e., Beauveria bassiana, Trichoderma sp., and Metarhizium anisopliae.
b. Toxicology
Understanding aspects of chemical toxicity relevant to pest and natural enemies, and plant resistance research on agriculture for major insect pests.
c. Plant Clinic
Develop sustainable agricultural technologies and systems.
