    The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully held an international guest lecture in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Biology, Germany, on Monday, March 2, 2026. The event took place at the Venture Room, Agrotropica Learning Center (AGLC), and featured Claire McCann, Ph.D., as the keynote speaker. She delivered a presentation titled “Evolutionary Genomics of Ralstonia syzygii subsp. celebesensis,” highlighting recent advances in the study of evolutionary genomics of plant pathogens, particularly bacteria affecting horticultural crops. read more

    Faculty of Agriculture UGM Hosts Japanese Scholars in Guest Lecture on Horticulture and Plant Diseases

    The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held an international guest lecture on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Venture Room, 6th Floor of the AGLC Building. The event featured three distinguished scholars from leading universities in Japan: Dr. Sota Yamamoto from Kagoshima University, Dr. Nabeshima Tomoyuki from Yamagata University, and Dr. Sota Koeda from Kindai University. During the session, the speakers presented several research topics related to recent developments in horticultural science and plant diseases in the Asia–Pacific region. The topics included Dispersal Routes of Chili Peppers in the Asia–Pacific Region, which discussed the historical and geographical pathways of chili pepper distribution in the Asia–Pacific; Studies on Cuticle Cracking in Cherry Tomato Fruit, which examined the phenomenon of cuticle cracking in cherry tomatoes; and Genetic Diversity of Begomoviruses and Resistance-based Disease Management in Vegetables, which highlighted the genetic diversity of Begomoviruses and strategies for disease management based on plant resistance.     An iftar gathering (bukber) organized by the Master’s Program in Phytopathology, Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada was held on 26 February 2026 at Nyore Cafe. The event served as an opportunity to strengthen ties between lecturers and students while fostering a sense of community within the academic environment of the Phytopathology Study Program. The event also included an introduction session for new students enrolling in the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, allowing them to get acquainted with one another and begin building academic networks from the start of their studies. read more

    Three Plant Protection Students of Universitas Gadjah Mada Graduate as Fastest Cohort, Completing Studies in 3 Years and 4 Months at February 2026 Commencement

    Three of the fastest graduates from the 2022 cohort of the Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada, were officially conferred their degrees on February 25, 2026, in a solemn graduation ceremony. The three graduates are Agis Fauzi Gufron from Jember, Sofyan Ibrahim from Klaten, and Ashim Syarif Krisnaputra from Yogyakarta. Their achievement in completing their studies within a notably short period has drawn particular attention within the faculty.

    All three students were supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Fransiscus Xaverius Wagiman, S.U., a senior academic who is entering retirement this year after decades of dedicated service in the field of plant protection. Under his guidance, the students demonstrated strong dedication, academic consistency, and effective time management throughout their coursework and thesis completion. read more

    Collaboration between UGM, GMP, and PEI Investigates Endosymbiotic Microbes for Sugarcane Pest Control

    The Department of Plant Protection (HPT), Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) presented a research proposal titled “Profiling and Exploration of the Potential of Endosymbiotic Microbes for the Control of Sugarcane Stem Borer Pests” at a meeting held on 4 February 2026. This activity forms part of an effort to develop more sustainable pest management strategies through molecular biology and insect microbiology approaches.

    The research is led by Dr. Suputa, S.P., M.P. and Dr. Prayogo Probo Asmoro, S.P., M.Si from the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. The study aims to identify and explore the potential of endosymbiotic microbes that inhabit the bodies of sugarcane stem borer pests, which are expected to be utilized as an alternative and environmentally friendly pest control method. read more

    A coordination meeting regarding the preparation for the accreditation of the Plant Protection Study Program was held on 5 February 2026 in the Meeting Room of the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The meeting focused on the accreditation process conducted by the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Pendidikan Tinggi Ilmu Pertanian (LAM-PTIP) for the Plant Protection Study Program. The event was attended by all lecturers and administrative staff within the department as part of a collective effort to prepare the accreditation documents comprehensively. read more

    Prof. Dr. Ir. Achmadi Priyatmojo Participates in LAM-PTIP Accreditation Workshop to Strengthen the Plant Pathology Study Program

    The workshop entitled “Dissemination of Policies, Mechanisms, and Accreditation Instruments of the Independent Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Agricultural Sciences (LAM-PTIP)” was organized as an effort to strengthen academic community understanding of quality assurance systems and accreditation in higher education in the field of agriculture. The event was held on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Building A, 1st Floor.

    The workshop featured Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., Director of the Executive Board of LAM-PTIP, and Gusti Fauza, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., from the Accreditation Division of LAM-PTIP, as keynote speakers. The activity was attended by lecturers from various faculties and study programs, including those from the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, among whom was Prof. Dr. Ir.     The Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Holds the January II 2026 Graduation Ceremony

    On 30 January 2026, the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Universitas Gadjah Mada, conducted a graduation (yudisium) ceremony for 21 students. The January II 2026 graduation ceremony was held in the Meeting Room of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, 3rd Floor, Building A1.

    The twenty-one graduates shared reflections and experiences from their academic journey at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. They expressed that studying in the Plant Protection, Plant Pathology, and Entomology study programs provided valuable experiences, including the development of both hard and soft skills, comprehensive scientific understanding and its application, as well as the expansion of professional networks. In addition to expressing gratitude for having completed their studies in the Plant Protection Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada, the graduates also conveyed their hopes for the future development of the department, namely that the Department of Plant Protection will continue to grow, produce excellent and impactful graduates, and that all lecturers will always be granted good health. read more
